Tooth Coloured Fillings

Fillings are not only functional, but can be natural looking as well. Tooth coloured fillings used to be considered as less durable than the standard amalgam filling, however with advances in materials, tooth coloured fillings now have properties comparable to amalgam.

This alternative to amalgam means teeth can look completely natural and healthy, therefore improving our patients’ smiles and self-confidence.

Veneers

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. Sometimes a natural colour ‘composite’ material is used instead of porcelain.

Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy, and because they are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond, very little preparation of the tooth is needed.

Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth (usually the upper ones).
A veneer can make a chipped tooth look intact again: the porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth with a thicker section replacing the broken part.

Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) is not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

Bridges

A dental bridge, sometimes known as a fixed partial denture, is a prosthesis used to replace missing teeth.
A dental bridge is made by shaping the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth. These adjustments enable joined up crowns to be attached to the remaining teeth and recreate appearance and function.

Modern materials produce stunningly life like results and much time and care is needed to ensure that the bridge looks good and lasts. Not all gaps lend themselves to this solution, therefore our experience of over 30 years can guide and help you make the best-informed choice.

Crowns

Crowns are an ideal way to rebuild teeth which have been damaged, or weakened by decay or a very large filling. The crown fits right over the remaining part of the tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape and the contour of a natural tooth. Crowns are sometimes also known as ‘caps’. An Anterior Crown is a crown fitted to the front six teeth and a Posterior Crown on the back teeth.

These are the number of reasons for needing a crown:

  • The tooth may have been weakened by having a very large filling
  • You may have discoloured fillings and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth
  • You may have had a root filling which will need a crown to protect it
  • You may have had an accident and damaged the tooth
  • It may help hold a bridge or denture firmly in place

Implants

Dental implants are now becoming a more popular treatment than partial dentures and conventional bridges for the replacement of missing teeth. They provide a long-term solution, slow down bone loss and preserve surrounding healthy tooth tissue.

The implant itself is inserted into a pre-drilled hole in your jaw, acting as an artificial root. The implant is then used to secure a crown, bridge or denture in place.

Why have Implants?

Implants are more comfortable than conventional dentures since they don’t move.

They are the second chance that we all deserve to eat and smile normally.

Dental implants are the alternative to bridgework for permanently replacing missing teeth, eliminating the need to cut into healthy teeth either side of the gap.

When teeth are missing the surrounding bone begins to shrink, dental implants can help maintain the shape and structure of the jaw bone.

We always welcome new patients who are ready to receive the best dental care. Coronation Road Dental Surgery offers affordable and comprehensive dental services, and we are regularly expanding our family of patients.

“The staff at the Coronation Road Dental Surgery are very friendly and welcoming. In fact, I sometimes forget that I’m at the dentist! I certainly don’t feel nervous or anxious going there.
A couple of years ago, I had an implant put in. Ian James and his staff did an amazing job. I felt I could completely trust them and the aftercare has been wonderful too! In summary, I cannot recommend Ian James and his colleagues too highly.”

“I have been a patient at Coronation Road Dental Surgery for approximately 7 years and have always had very good treatment and service. I was suffering badly with a particular tooth for a long period of time and eventually had root canal treatment. The service I have always received from Coronation Road Dental Surgery is brilliant and this was no exception. I was very pleased that my dentist offered this service and had such a talented and experienced dentist to perform the procedure.”

“I can’t say I like dentists and I am sure I am not alone in saying that. Ian however is the exception! I had two dental implants and a number of other treatments which took over a year to complete and I can wholeheartedly say I looked forward to every appointment. Ian makes you feel at ease from the moment you walk into his office.”

“I have been a patient of him for nearly 20 years and I would highly recommend him to anyone who want quality, sympathy and a pain free experience.”
